- Abstract
Today's society is featured by an increased flow of population, both domestic, continental, and international. Consequently, the execution of legal instruments becomes essential. Legal discourse makes full use of clichés, collocations, and a series of patterns for verbal elements, all of these are rather baroque and stylistically complex items. As a result of them, the translation of this kind of discourse entails a high level of translation difficulty for trainee translators. Due to this fact, we have selected, analysed, and translated (Spanish into English) a representative sample of legal verbal elements and collocations. In order to perform our research, we dealt with a wide range of Law branches, as well as a significant sample of text genres. Additionally, we made use of monolingual, and bilingual resources, along with parallel documentation. Overall, we detected how parallel documentation was the most helpful resource for identifying the equivalent expression of this kind of verbal construction. In doing so, we aimed at contributing to both the (Spanish-English and English-Spanish) translation and proof-reading of the aforementioned.
