- Abstract
Professor Dieter Mueller-Dombois, a renowned ecologist, passed away on July 19, 2022. He was highly respected in the field of ecology and served as an inspiration to many students, colleagues, and friends. Born in Germany in 1925, he later moved to Canada and then to Hawai'i, where he worked as a professor of botany at the University of Hawai'i at Mānoa until his retirement in 1990. Throughout his career, he focused on vegetation and ecosystem research, teaching, and conservation advocacy. He received numerous awards for his contributions and mentored a new generation of conservationists. His legacy continues to inspire efforts in natural ecosystem conservation in Hawai'i, the Pacific islands, and globally.
