- Abstract
In this article, the author discusses the hospital wastewater as a significant environmental source of extended spectrum beta lactamase-producing Escherichia coli which leads to water-borne diseases. Topics discussed include downriver drinking water treatment by natural die-off of bacteria, characteristics of wastewater that reduce efficacy of standard measures comprises its turbidity and its particulate load and limiting exposure to resistant organisms by disinfection of hospital waste.
