- Abstract
"Swarm Season" is a film that explores the lives of a mother and daughter living in a remote area of Hawai'i, who practice alternative beekeeping. The film highlights the importance of swarming in their natural beekeeping practice, which allows bees to adapt to change and sustain life. The contrast between their approach and that of conventional beekeepers, who rear queens for overseas customers, is also depicted. The film not only focuses on bees and beekeeping but also explores the relationship between the mother and daughter, as well as themes of remoteness, modernity, and the coexistence of Indigenous and technocratic worlds. The cinematography, sound design, and score of the film create a multisensorial experience for viewers.
