- Title
Active Nonviolence During War: Theological Implications.
- Authors
MCCARTHY, ELI S.
- Abstract
Many Catholics and others are willing to prioritize active nonviolence to prevent war, or even as a methodology to recover and heal after war. However, what happens when war breaks out? In this essay, I analyze how Pope Francis has deepened our understanding of human dignity by centering active nonviolence as the way to live in accord with dignity. In turn, I describe impactful examples of active nonviolence during war along with some of the challenges. I then identify key theological implications such as the praxis of accompaniment.
