- Abstract
One of the most important problems of today is air pollution. The exhaust emission values of the engines with carburetor, whose sales have been stopped in our country since the year of 2000, are quite high compared to the vehicles with injectors. In the internal combustion engines, power is gained from the combustion of the mixture of fuel and appropriate proportion of air in the cylinder. Performance getting better depends on the complete combustion of fuel in a very short period of time. However, it is known that fuel doesn't break into pieces efficiently in the engines with carburetor. As a result of this, the efficiency of these engines decreases while the fuel consumption increases. In this study, the purpose is to increase the combustion efficiency of an engine with carburetor. The effects of additional oxygen at different pressures have been investigated for the exhaust emissions. Experiments have been done at the conditions of various speeds and full load. Based on the test results, some decreases have been determined in CO, HC emissions while some increases have been found in CO2, O2 and excess air coefficient in the exhaust.
