- Authors
Nicholas L. Chan
- Abstract
"Liang Wu Di lei xiu cheng Fo" (..., Emperor Wu of Liang attains Buddhahood through accumulative practice), a short story contained in Yu shi ming yan..., is seldom noticed by scholars and readers. It is an adaptation based on anecdotes in certain classical works and its relationship with these texts is still readily apparent. Dividing the story into fifteen parts and investigating the construction of the text, this paper examines the story through intertextual analysis of its theme, subject matter, plot, and character roles from the standpoint of adaptation and parallelism.
