- Authors
Nikolov, Vassil
- Abstract
The article focuses on Solnitsata, the earliest salt extraction center in Europe. It notes that circa 5400 B.C., early settlers boiled water coming from the salt mirror, citing the huge amount of briquetage as evidence. The final product was the ingot, which was used as a standard unit of trade and exchange. It mentions that the discovery may lead to a study on an important aspect of the economy of early European civilization. A detailed description of the salt extraction site is presented.
