- Abstract
Rhesus haemagglutination varies with solute species in solutions of electrolytes. This variation can be accounted for partly by electrostatic effects and partly by hydrational effects in the first stage reaction. Haemagglutination also varies with the non-electrolyte component of solutions containing both non-electrolyte and potassium chloride. In this case electrostatic effects are virtually constant and the differences suggest similar hydrational effects in the first stage reaction. The occurrence of a well defined maximum in the functional relationship between the Race score and hydrational variables implies that hydrational specificity is important in Rh-anti-Rh interaction.
