- Abstract
The article focuses on fatty liver and its role in the genesis of insulin resistance. Particular focus is given to the global prevalence of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), along with the pathogenesis of fatty liver. It notes the potential use of NAFLD as a marker for increased risk of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. It cites excessive mitochondrial free cholesterol as a key factor in the progression of steatosis in severe forms of liver disease.
