- Abstract
The article presents the results of a study on the influence of treatment with pioglitazone on messenger RNA expression and secretion of inflammatory proteins by monocyte/macrophages in patients with type 2 diabetes independent from glycemic control. The subjects received 30 mg of pioglitazone or placebo on top of their current therapy in a double-blind fashion. It mentions the potential of the study to contribute to the understanding on the cardiovascular risk reduction in type 2 diabetics.
