- Abstract
The objective of this article is to present a notion of the concept of disease from a humanistic and non-scientific approach. Faced with a perspective of science based on experimentation and technology, we propose a deliberation that integrates the artistic-literary paradigm. A hermeneutic analysis is applied on the topic of the disease in Thomas Mann's narrative to describe its predominant functions. The result is the revision of the conventional relationships between culture, life and health, compared to the meaning proposed by the author. The reinterpretation of the possibilities of the disease is transferred from the physical expression to the metaphysical dimension. The conclusions propose the affinity of times between the present of the author and ours, as well as the integration of humanistic knowledge and the use of the literaryimaginative resource for the therapy of the health professional.
