- Abstract
The article examines the political and economic space of fire hazard in shrub-covered hillsides in California. It offers related background ideas in prior hazards work in geography and illustrates the ecological roles of fire in chaparral. It highlights the cultural and economic factors in Southern California that created such disasters. Lastly, it differentiates the risk and vulnerability and studies the procedures assigning each across space and social levels.
