- Abstract
The article presents an analysis of the poem "Maud," by Alfred Tennyson, discussing the reading of its elements within the context of its being the first poem written by Tennyson after his appointment as British Poet Laureate. The history of the composition of the poem is reviewed along with particular exploration of manifestations of Tennyson's sense of responsibility as poet laureate expressing broad themes of humanity and society within the work.
