- Authors
Hu, Esther T.
- Abstract
An essay is presented that compares depictions of St. Peter in poems by Christina Rossetti and John Keble. It considers the role of the Oxford Movement, of which Keble was a central figure, in the development of Rossetti's religious ideals and distinguishes between the character of individual religious devotion in both poets' work. The depiction of Jesus Christ's gaze following St. Peter's denial of him in both poet's work is considered in particular.
