THE CONTRADICTIONS OF LEGACY: REIMAGINING THE ZHENG FAMILY IN THE PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF CHINA.
- Authors

- Abstract
The article discusses the interpretation of the Zheng family's legacy in Chinese history before and during the 1990's. The author suggests that the shifts in the assessment of the four generations of the family are connected with the shifts in the People's Republic of China's priorities since 1949. Topics include historical data on the Zheng concerning its naval fleet, support on the Ming Dynasty and resistance against the Qing Dynasty, and the occupation of the Dutch colony of Taiwan in 1662.
