- Title
FROM CONTROLLING ACCESS TO CRAFTING MINDS: EXPERIMENTS IN EDUCATION IN LATE RANA NEPAL.
- Authors
Parajuli, Lokranjan
- Abstract
The article discusses the Nepali Basic Education System introduced by the Nepali government in the later years of the Rana dynasty. The author argues that this system reversed earlier Rana education policy, which essentially restricted education to very few members of the Nepali citizenry. Focus is given to the Rana's use of the Basic Education System as a means to quell national dissent, forge stronger relations with India, and limit government responsibility for developing education.
