- Abstract
Food plants, feeding behaviour and feeding mechanism of O. nigricornis is described in this paper. Pterygota alata is main food plant besides other food is searched with the help of sansillae of 4th clavate segment of antennae and feeding site is selected by sen-sillae of labial tip. Mandibular and maxillary stylets are main piercing organ and cibarium help in sucking by creating suction pressure. Saliva is pumped into the wound by salivary syring to dissolve food by its enzymes. Duration of feeding takes more time in nymphs than adults. It lasts from 65 to 285 minutes. Female feeds more frequently on the seeds, which contain carbohydrates and fat, necessary for vitellogenesis during breeding season. Besides phytophagous diet, the bug showed cannibalism and saprophagous behaviour.
