- Abstract
The article presents a study which investigates inshore whale cue distribution from an observation point on the coast to be modeled with respect to a nonlinear environmental feature. Visual survey for beaked whales was conducted by a team of three or four observers working in 30 minutes shifts and detection probability and cue density models were used as in the numerical calculations. The study found that visual land-based survey is useful and can cover a range of beaked whale habitats.
