The article focuses on unpaid medical leave under the Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993 (FMLA) and employee can ask a court to invoke the doctrine of equitable estoppel to bar the employer. It mentions how the Supreme Court and Department of Labor (DOL) have made it unclear for circuit courts trying to determine the doctrine's definition. It also mentions Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 (ERISA), in both the federal circuits and Supreme Court.
