Developments in the Understanding and Treatment of Feline Infectious Peritonitis: 1963-2021.
- Authors
Watson, Hadley
- Abstract
The article discusses challenges faced by the American veterinary profession in the diagnosis and treatment of Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP) from 1963-2021. It is yet to determine why the individualized mutation of a universal feline virus occurs in some animals, which makes the incidence of FIP impossible to predict. Clinical research trials with naturally infected animals face the challenge of a short time window to intervene clinically between the onset of illness and death of the cat.
