- Authors

- Abstract
The article discusses the bibliographical citation methodology used in compiling the 18th century French reference book "Encyclopédie." The contributors to the "Encyclopédie's" practice of not attributing authorship for all their sources, including for reasons of government censorship and the banning of books, is discussed. The article also discusses the contributors to the "Encyclopédie's" strategies of choosing what to cite from the works of the French Enlightenment philosopher Voltaire and the French political philosopher Charles-Louis de Montesquieu. An overview of bibliographical citation methodology of Chevalier de Jaucourt, a contributor to "Encyclopédie," is provided.
