- Abstract
The article discusses social aspects of Jewish personal name changing in New York City, New York from 1917 through 1942, including upward social mobility for Jewish families, Jewish employment and Jewish identity. The article heavily references Jewish name change petitions to New York City. An overview of immigrants to New York City's names changes, including Chinese personal name changes, is provided.
