- Title
Caribbean Immigrants in the United States--Health and Health Care: The Need for a Social Agenda.
- Authors
Wheeler, Darrell P.; Mahoney, Annette M.
- Abstract
The author reports on the health needs faced by those who immigrate to the United States from the Caribbean. The way in which Caribbean immigrants often move to the U.S. alone and have their families join them at a later date is mentioned. Difficulties which Caribbean immigrants have regarding accessing health care once they move to the U.S. are discussed, such as not having health insurance, their undocumented status and their beliefs and practices regarding health care. Steps which have been taken to form health care policies in the U.S. which do not discriminate against immigrants are mentioned.
