- Abstract
In particle board production, paraffin emulsion is used to improve the physical properties of the boards. Paraffin chemical is given in a gluing machine called a mixer in particle board production. In this study, the effects of changing the order of delivery in the mixer machine on the performance values of the chipboard samples to be produced were investigated. Paraffin emulsion was dosed before and after gluing. Particle boards were produced at 220 °C in a continuous press line with 18 mm thickness, 640 kg/m3 density, 32% surface layer chips ratio and 68% middle layer chips ratio. Formaldehyde emission of the produced boards, water absorption and swelling to the thickness to determine their physical properties, bending strength and internal bonding tests to determine their mechanical properties were carried out. According to the results obtained, it was revealed that the application of paraffin to the system after the gluing process reduced the formaldehyde emission values by 9.8% according to the desiccator method, 7% according to the perforator method, and 17.2% according to the gas analysis method. Internal bondig was determined as 0,52 N/mm2 before gluing and 0,50 N/mm2 after gluing. The physical properties of the boards were negatively affected by changing the paraffin feeding sequence, but no significant change was observed in the mechanical properties.
