- Abstract
In 1945 the so-called big three (USA, England and USSR) met on two occasions, at the Yalta Conference and Potsdam Conference. Both of the meetings laid the foundations of the Cold War Doctrine. This doctrine was based in a speech that reinforced the distrust between US and USSR. The bipolarity, feature of this period, splits itself into three main aspects: the race to keep the influence zones (defined in Yalta), the balance of power (referred to the arms race), and deterrence or containment (through the Marshall Plan and the proliferation of U.S. military bases around the world). In this context, the U.S. economy has strengthened, which resulted also in investments in research, technology. Consequently provided a great military power - supported by the arms race, culminating in the formation of a military-industrial complex that has become essential to U.S. economic - and political power, which together have been essential to the economic support of the country.
