- Abstract
The Epstein Barr virus (EBV) is a ubiquitous pathogen that has infected and remains in more than 90% of the adult population, in infectious particles in tissue cells, the virus establishes a latent infection for life, it is one of the most common viruses common in humans, it has also been linked to a large number of diseases, among which certain tumors and cancers of different types stand out. The objective of the research was to analyze the prevalence and scientific bases of the immunopathogenesis of Epstein Barr virus infection. A documentary research was carried out, through the bibliographic search of articles published in the last 5 years in English and Spanish, in databases and scientific search engines such as PubMed, Elsevier, Scielo, Redalyc, Google Academic and DOAJ. EBV infection infects 90% of the population, is transmitted mainly through saliva, affects children and adolescents, predominantly males. The history of EBV infection has been associated with oncogenic capacity and given its cosmopolitan extension, the need to investigate it is evident, especially when there is still no specific treatment or vaccine for its prophylaxis.
