- Abstract
Gender stereotypes correspond to beliefs of characteristics and how men and women should behave, giving rise to the concepts of masculinity and femininity. The objectives of the present research were to validate the Bem Sexual Roles Inventory in students of various pedagogies in Chile and to compare gender roles between physical education students and other pedagogies. To this end, the Bem Sexual Roles Inventory was applied to 351 students of 15 pedagogies from a university in Santiago de Chile. The results show that the inventory is valid and reliable to be applied in students of pedagogies. Students have higher femineity scores in most of the evaluated careers, with prevalence of undifferentiated and masculine typology in men, and androgynous and undifferentiated in women. Physical Education students have the highest levels of masculinity among all pedagogies. It is recommended to replicate this research in other universities and other careers.
