- Abstract
Nowadays, regarding to increased use of electrical devices and possible harmful effects on health, accurate measurement of magnetic fields is an important matter. In this study, obtained data from magnetic field measurements using a single axis system in three different axes in a petrochemical industry were considered. The aim of this study is to assess the validity of single axis method by introducing dominant axis as a nominee for the resultant magnetic field. Magnetic flux density in four substations of a petrochemical complex was measured using HI-3604 ELF survey meter in accordance with IEEE STD 644-1994 method. Magnetic flux density value calculated with three-dimensional method and an axis one from measured data, analyzed with MSTATC and Duncan's multiple range tests was used for comparison. It was found that in most cases, the Y component of measurement had maximum effect on calculating of maximum and resultant values between three components of field. At MV ROOM of ASU substation following parameters was founded: the highest value of magnetic flux density that measured in the complex, obtain in Y axis with amount of 402.5 μT, and the maximum value of resultant magnetic flux density was 417.03 μT. Quantity of resultant field average value tends towards maximum value of three axes (Bmax) and maximum values of single axis (By) were 10 and 20 percent, respectively and it was concluded that measurement of magnetic fields in occupational environments in single direction isn't a complete assessment, because maximum values of magnetic fields aren't just along one particular axis.
