- Abstract
The article discusses the benefits and drawbacks to the digitization of early music materials and the study of musicology as of February 2013. She examines the relationship between the availability of online manuscripts to increased sales of paper facsimiles of those documents, the rise of online tools such as the Internet resource Google Books, and the significance of content digitization in preserving books and manuscripts. The author discusses the development of the website known as the Digital Image Archive of Medieval Music (DIAMM). The author argues that the growth and availability of digital materials and the use of original sources will create demand for facsimile hard copies of musical materials from which musicians can perform.
