SENEGAL: Dakar's Hawkers Banned.
- Abstract
The article reports on the social chaos provoked by the decision banning beggars and peddlers in Senegal. Riots spread throughout Senegal despite the efforts by the authorities to defuse the chaos created by jobless protesters. Fierce battle between the protesters and police persisted on its second day Dakar, capital of Senegal. Police fired tear gas as protesters fought by throwing stones. The chaos began to spread upon the implementation of a presidential decree issued by President Abdoulaye Wade. The order was issued to address the problem of city's clogged street.
