- Abstract
People with mental health problems are much more likely than the general population to suffer poor physical health. There is an urgent need for health professionals to actively promote the physical health of this group. This article reports on an audit that was carried out in the Camden & Islington NHS Foundation Trust. The outcome reinforces the view that, with appropriate training and support, all health and social care professionals can deliver personalised health promotion interventions. In addition, it underlines that in response to complex needs, health and social care professionals will increasingly have to develop a set of common generic skills that enable them to provide a consistent level of care for patients in line with the Quality, Innovation, Productivity and Prevention agenda (DH, 2010).
