- Abstract
An interview with Dru Smith, chief geodesist of the National Geodetic Survey (NGS) who participated in a project to determine the true architectural height of the Washington Monument, is presented. Asked to describe what a geodesist does, Smith states that geodesists are scientists who work in the field of geodesy. He explains that geodesy is a measurement science which focuses on the determination of the size and shape of the earth as well as its gravity field.
