- Abstract
This article discusses the deportation by the imperial British Empire of French-Canadian settlers of the "New France" colony in North America in 1755. The place of these events and their effect on the collective memory of Acadian nationalism is examined. The symbolic and mythic consequences of this forced displacement still exist in contemporary society, most powerfully through the use of shared terminology to describe the event, illustrating the power of such traumatic events on the cultural experience.
