- Title
Oxygen and the activity and distribution of marine Thaumarchaeota.
- Authors
Hollibaugh, James T.
- Abstract
The article discusses the role of Thaumarchaeota in oxidation of ammonia under low oxygen concentration conditions. It talks about their distribution below the pycnocline layer in the ocean interiors and takes the instance of the Nitrosopumilus maritimus which are formed by photochemical reactions. It also discusses their metabolism activity that produces nitrous oxide a greenhouse gas destroying the ozone layer.
