- Abstract
The article discusses the history of the Greenwald family of Humboldt County, California, primarily focusing on the events surrounding the arrest of smuggler Louis Greenwald. Louis' efforts as part of an opium smuggling ring are detailed, including his time as leader of the "Halcyon," a smuggling ship. Following the discussion of Louis' arrest, the author provides information on the arrest of forger Moses Greenwald for the forging of Chinese documents. Reports of both illegal operations found in Humboldt-area newspapers are provided by the author.
