- Title
RACE ISSUE SPLITS BOMBAY JEWISH COMMUNITY, 1934.
- Abstract
The article focuses on the unequal treatment towards the Bene Israel, the Brown Jews of the Orient, in the Jewish community in India. The officers and trustees of the Musmiah Yeshua Synagogue of Bombay has denied Bene Israel the opportunity to read the Sepher Torah. The reading is usually done on the Sabbath and holidays. This treatment was protested by J.E. Joshua, a member of the Jewish community. Joshua denies that the inequality is being performed mostly by the Bagdad rabbis. On other hand, the Bene Israel were given the opportunity to practice the rights and privileges of the Jews.
