The article focuses on Philo Jacoby who is considered the first Californian to achieve royalty in the international ranks of sportsmen. It mentions that Jacoby won the Kingship, the king medal and $100 during an American Sharpshooters Bund Festival in Washington. It notes that along Jacoby's fame as marksman, he continued to show his impressive physical strength in formal athletic events and support social affairs. It is stated that the popularity of Jacoby and his cordial reception by various European hosts were due not only to his skill and expertise as marksman but linguistic due to his abilities and fluent command of German.
