- Abstract
The article focuses on Phillip A. Udall, founder of the Udall & Landan Manufacturing Company. Born in Gardinas, Lithuania in 1884, Udall belonged to a family of mechanics and machinists. He arrived in the U.S. in 1903 at the age of 19. He took up drafting and mechanical design in San Francisco, California. Udall married Winifred Epstein, a librarian, in 1911. After working with the Holt Manufacturing Company in Stockton, California, he and his family moved to New York in 1922 where he founded the Udall & Landan Manufacturing Company. He passed away in New York City in 1959 at the age of 75.
