- Abstract
The article discusses the incumbent Georgia Senator, former Georgia governor and member of the Georgia political party the Democratic Party Herman Talmadge's defeat in the 1980 senatorial election to the Republican (GOP) candidate Mack Mattingly. An overview of the political change in the Democratic Party's dominance in U.S. Southern States that the election represented is provided.
