- Abstract
Clinical trials, particularly randomized controlled trials (RCTs), are considered the gold standard for generating evidence in clinical practice. Participants in these trials hope to improve their health and contribute to future medical management. The comprehensive nature of clinical trials can lead to better health outcomes for participants compared to those who do not participate. The accurate dissemination of trial outcomes by editorial boards and journal reviewers is crucial for shaping clinical practice. However, there have been instances of false or flawed data in clinical trials, leading to retractions. The COVID-19 pandemic has increased demands on editors and reviewers, potentially compromising the review process. Research misconduct, such as fabrication or falsification of data, can lead to retractions. Intensive Care Medicine (ICM) has implemented measures to minimize the risk of publishing untrustworthy clinical trials, including thorough review processes and cross-referencing author names with retraction databases. The disclosure of funding and potential conflicts of interest is also important to prevent bias in trial results. These measures demonstrate ICM's commitment to reducing the dissemination of questionable research and maintaining trust in medical research.
