- Abstract
The paper presents the spatiotemporal dynamics of heavy metal distribution (for zinc, copper, lead, cadmium, mercury) in the water of the Volga mouth offing in the Caspian Sea in 2011–2020, depending on meteorological and hydrological conditions. Based on the analysis of the state environmental pollution monitoring data, statistically significant coefficients of correlation between the metal concentrations in seawater and the parameters of the Volga runoff and wind were obtained. It was found that the concentration of metals in the water of the Volga delta watercourses was several times lower than in seawater in this period, which calls into question the widespread belief about the Volga runoff as the main contributor to the pollution of the Caspian Sea.
