- Abstract
An essay is presented which discusses connection between U.S. West Coast radicalism in the 1960s, Thomas Pynchon's novel "Vineland," and the late George Orwell's novel "Nineteen Eighty-Four." Topics explored include the way Pynchon depicted political aspects of mass media particularly films, the impact of politics on activist filmmaking activities, and the way Pynchon addressed the contribution of mass media to the public perception of war.
