IF IT IS BROKEN, YOU SHOULD NOT FIX IT: THE THREAT FAIR REPAIR LEGISLATION POSES TO THE MANUFACTURER AND THE CONSUMER.
- Authors
MACANENEY, MARISSA
- Abstract
The article focuses on the consumer electronics industry, which is said to be the main target of the proposed fair repair legislation. The legislation would mandate that all manufacturers sell spare parts to consumers and repair shops. The article suggests that legislators look to a solution in the automobile repair industry. A standardized practice is proposed to reconcile the deficit in the legislation while harmonizing consumer needs with manufacturer protection.
