- Title
Rice productivity gene discovered.
- Authors
Walter, Patrick
- Abstract
The article discusses the discovery by Chinese researchers of a single gene that controls three important productivity traits in rice that would open possibilities of increasing yields and improving cultivation management. It is suggested that rice prices have gone up by as much as 70% in the past year as poor harvests and low reserves or greedy speculators. It is inferred that India, Egypt, Vietnam and other countries have led to put export restrictions secure domestic consumers due to the declining reserves of rice.
