- Title
From Episodic Space to Narrative Space: The Search for Unity in Peter Handke's Fiction and the Paintings of Ursula Hübner.
- Authors
Shooman, Diane
- Abstract
The article examines the concept of aesthetic unity in the fiction by Peter Handke and the paintings of Ursula Hübner. The work by Handke poses a problem for some followers who would label the earlier work avant-garde and the later reactionary. For example, critics have taken offence at the preoccupation with beauty in Handke's film Himmel über Berlin, as if beauty were somehow not the province of art. The author also suggested that Handke repositions himself historically and confronts problems presented him by the past. The relationship between nature and story is more than just regenerative. Handle relates types of space to types of narratives.
