- Abstract
An essay is presented on the history of Connecticut's overseas trade, concentrating on Connecticut's commercial relations with the West Indies and with other colonies along the U.S. east coast. The author reveals that Connecticut exports included livestock, lumber, foodstuffs such as corn, meat, and onions, and raw materials such as flaxseed. The impact of the British Navigation Acts, the American Revolutionary War, and nineteenth century industrialization on Connecticut's trade is assessed.
