- Abstract
A framework for the analysis of minority socialization was developed by simultaneously taking into account the questions of generational gap and minority‐majority conflict. The similarities and differences of attitudes toward the family, school, and ethnic/racial groups—as expressed by Chinese adult and youth residents in the Los Angeles Chinatown area and by teachers in public schools located in that community—were examined to illustrate a limited application of the framework. It was found that while cultural difference rather than generational difference predominated in attitudes toward supporting aged parents, the two variables did not always operate the same way in other areas examined. Chinese parents and their children differed in the degree of importance of the quality of education. In terms of attitude toward ethnic/racial groups, each sample exhibited a distinct dominant pattern of response.
