- Authors
Lukasik-Braum, Magdalena; Spelman, Lucy
- Abstract
The article discusses the various outbreaks of deadly respiratory disease occurring in chimpanzees habituated in Eastern Tanzania. As reported in the Taä Forest chimpanzees accounted in Gombe Stream Research Center and Mahale Mountain National Park, the death rate shows a range of 30% at Gombe and 20% at Mahale. Visitation rules at Gombe and Mahale were established to further underscore the concerns on respiratory disease outbreaks including the risks on the diseases of wild great apes.
