- Abstract
The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of feeding different levels of forage vinegar in diet on the reproductive performance of gestating sows. A total of 15 gestating sows were randomly divided into 3 treatments including the corn-soybean based diet (the Control), the diet supplemented with 0.5% and 0.75% forage vinegar. The body weight change during lactation, the litter size at birth, weaning and body weight gain of piglets during lactation were measured. There was no difference in body weight loss or daily feed intake of sow during lactating period. Sows fed forage vinegar tended to increase total pig born. There was no difference in litter size at weaning, the survival rate of litter size during lactation for piglets in response to the 0.5% and 0.75% forage vinegar. In conclusion, sows fed forage vinegar during the gestation and lactation period did not benefit the reproductive efficiency or litter performance of sows.
